The day I was released, Mark met me right at the front gate to pick me up. The very first stop we made was to Health and Welfare, where he helped me get set up with Medicaid and food stamps. From there, we went to get clothing and food, and then he took me to my parole office to meet and check in with my parole officer. At that time, I was scheduled to stay at a halfway house, but it quickly became clear that it wasn’t a good environment for me. Within just a few hours, Mark found me an alternative place to stay that was much better suited to my needs. Since then, Mark has checked in on me regularly to make sure I’m doing okay, keeping my appointments, and staying on track. He even helped me get a bike so I could get around before I was able to get my driver’s license. If it weren’t for Mark, I believe I would have been in a really bad situation at the original halfway house. His quick action and commitment made all the difference. Mark truly goes out of his way to help and support the people he works with, and I’m incredibly grateful for everything he’s done for me.

After serving 4 ½ years at ISCC, I found hope and purpose through the American Legion program inside the prison, supported by Mark Person and A New Path. Mark’s unwavering dedication provided us with tools, resources, and, most importantly, the belief that we could rebuild our lives. Mark dedicates so much of his time, money, and energy to support us. He supplies bikes, parts, and tools to run an incredible bike shop. He brings us flags to decommission and provides materials for us to make poppies, knit, and crochet items that benefit disabled and homeless veterans. Most importantly, Mark gives us hope—the belief that we can move beyond prison life and become productive members of society. On the day of my release, A New Path ensured I got to the Greyhound bus, setting me up for success. Their support didn’t just help me transition—it gave me the confidence to become a better man and a productive member of society. Thanks to Mark and A New Path, I’m thriving today. Their kindness and love changed my life.

Much love, Paul A. G.
